FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: SHOT 66 Version 04 [FINAL]

Realised I forgot to post this a while back, it's already been rendered but I'm just placing the playblast here as proof!

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: SHOT 68 Version 03 [FINAL]

Very short clip, 106 frames - again, with added cloth animation. The blue colour is only a substitute, instead of importing the blanket, I created a new ncloth then rested it in it's shape. I used quite a lot of clusters for this shot because I wanted the feeling of the blanket moving alongside his body movement.

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: SHOT 63 [FINAL] & 64 Version 04

With added cloth animation (the colour is just a substitue for now), I had to make the jumbo rig and bed a passive collider and apply an ncloth to the plane. After that, I used attached clusters on the blanket's vertexes where needed and moved them around to achieve the effect I wanted.

Added the guardian rig animation in shot 64, didn't realise until afterward that I had to parent his hands to the bike at some point! I ended up using locators to attach his hands to the bike handle and saddle.

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: SHOT 66 Version 03

Splined and with facial/ hair animation! I did alter a lot since the blocked version, such as the timing which is now 232 frames instead of the original 139. It's a few seconds difference but it should be fine because it's set in the hospital as opposed to the racing/ action scenes in the other parts of the film.

The most difficult part was when he tries to sit up, I'm still not fully satisfied with it. It doesn't help that you can't tell if his elbows touch the bed or not (for weight), hopefully it'll make sense with shadows.

Shoulders on this rig go a bit funny when turned, I'm not sure if it might be my animation pushing the limits of the rig either so I'll have to wait till the shoulders are fixed.

The previous blocked shot is here: http://whey-an.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/for-team-veloetoile-shots-66-blocked.html

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: SHOT 65 Version 03

Elbows were a bit funny with the new rig, so I made a few tweaks and then added the facial animation. I also lengthened it by 16 frames so that when he closes his eyes it doesn't seem so rushed.

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: SHOTS 63 & 64 Version 03

Shots 63 and 64 now have facial animation, and also have been tweaked - for example, he is breathing in shot 63 (more evident that he is not dead).
SHOT 63
SHOT 64 - tweaked his head and neck, so it's clearer that he's looking at the bike; added a few more frames (for a longer hold when he lifts his arm up)
This playblast is from a duplicate camera I created of SHOT 64 and zoomed in so I could animate the facial features and see how it reads in shot 64's perspective. You can hardly see his face in shot 64's cam, but that might not be so on the big screen.

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: Shots 08, 09 & 10 Version 01 [BLOCKED/ KEYED]

Roughed out versions for shots 08, 09 & 10.
Got to play around with the new Jumbie rig, it's not fully-finished yet so there's a few glitches here and there but it was enough for roughing every thing out.

Shot 08 has the most work done to it because I couldn't seem to picture how you would get on a bike, so in the end I filmed reference. I have a few bikes lying around in the garden shed, also received a bike with the same handle as Jumbies so that was lucky!

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: Shots 66 BLOCKED Version02 [new]

I've decided to redo the poses of shot 66 because I felt the previous movement was too vigorous for an injured patient. The biggest factor was trying to work out the timing, I took reference but tried to learn from it and not copy the ref to a tee - I've added 80 frames more to the initial frame count

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: Shots 64, 65 & 67 Version 02

Playblasts of shots 64, 65 and 67; I have shot 63 & 68 as well but there isn't much changes to them so I've decided not to repost it. I don't feel satisfied with shot 66 so I've decided to change a few key poses around and start it up from blocking, which I will hopefully post later on in the week.

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: Shot 63~68 Rough Block Pass

Rig hasn't been fully rigged yet so no facial expression, there will also be a blanket covered over the rig as well in the near future.
I have the stepped version of these shots as well but decided to only upload them in spline - these are roughs and are mostly to work out the timing although I'm a bit dubious about shot 66's timing... Nevertheless, I've sent it to the director - Alison - to see what she thinks.

FOR TEAM VELO ETOILE: UV mapping the living room

Living room in Maya modelled by Brooke Hayes
UV-mapped by me (Wai-Han Lau)
Second time UV-mapping a whole scene for the team, I've learnt a lot more tricks for UV mapping this time around so it was quicker! These included ctrl-right click to move shells in UV and transfer attributes for copying UV maps onto an identical object - this was especially helpful as the christmas tree had several duplicated decorations

FOR TEAM VELOETOILE: Storyboard Sequence 03 redo

New version of Sequence 03, there was only a few panels added but I decided to move scenes in order - this is the complete set of panels for sequence 03. The new panels (Scene 02 to 08) were added by Alison, the director, in roughs and I drew/ cleaned them up.

FOR TEAM VELO ETIOLE: UV mapping the hospital scene

In team velo etoile, we're aiming to create the final look for the film by the end of christmas so it serves as a sample or 'prototype' to follow by when we craft everything else.
Hospital scene in Maya modelled by Brooke Hayes, UV-mapped by me (Wai-Han Lau).
Next, we're hoping to texture and light the scene and add the rig into the scene.
